One of the most disturbing questions of any working individual’s life, isn’t it? Many of us, in fact majority of us would not be satisfied with what they are getting in return of their efforts.
Stay hungry, stay foolish said by the most popular entrepreneur Steve Jobs purely states that if you stay hungry and foolish you can learn more and as we all know learning is an endless process. If you stop being foolish, you would start pretending that you have the entire knowledge and it is sufficient! It might even end your passion of earning for your dreams! True at some level!
Remember: Even the top entrepreneurs believe that it is good to acquire knowledge about everything they are unaware of!
There is no harm is gathering extra knowledge, it will definitely be used somewhere, sometime! My ultimate question is: are you satisfied with what you have?
This question is quite personal as every individual has different mindset, expectations, desires and perceptions! Passionate individuals never stop performing even if they feel they are being paid less.
We have been hearing from decades that work hard and you’ll get desired returns. But, honestly, do you really feel the return you receive is the desired one? We try to make our comfort zone with what we receive. It is one of the biggest mistakes any individual can make! Once you get comfortable and satisfied, you might start seeing your dreams getting defocused!
You might have heard people around you saying, “You are earning less than you are supposed to”! Is this the alert notification that makes you think, you should not be satisfied with your pay? Ask yourself, are you progressing? Have you become more competent? Have you analyzed your growth? Do you feel your efforts should receive a satisfactory return? If the answer is positive, you feel dissatisfied.
This dissatisfaction reduces work ability making you think all the time; you do not deserve what you are getting. Rather thinking this, try tactics that make you satisfied with your work, putting the thought of less pay aside.
You should try changing the psychology, but that does not mean you should stop working to achieve your dreams.
Signs showing there is Dissatisfaction with the Pay!
Underperformance
It happens with majority of the people, when there is no satisfaction; you cannot perform to an extent getting the best out of your capabilities. Have you ever thought is it really due to the feeling of dissatisfaction? I believe it is more due to the stress and depression that is generated at the workplace that lets you get less productive.
Less Achievements
“कर्म किये जा फल की चिंता मत कर|” – Stop worrying for the results, give your best!
As said above, focus on your objective rather counting on the returns! Can a modern individual having several dreams avoid the results? It is quite difficult (impossible in around 30% of the cases). Just because, they have the psychology that only result would decide the performance. With this thinking, they fail achieving their goals as their entire focus was on the end results (pay) rather on the procedure used. Put your 100% and let the top management consider your talent as the asset for the organization.
Shrinkage in Self - Control
Even the feelings like excitement, anxiety, tension etc. cannot be controlled when you are not satisfied with the work or its pay. Rather exclaiming the disappointment let your work pave the way to success. Scientists have found people having stress can lose the control easily. Self – control is the only solution to the situation.
No Power
If the individuals are given the power, they would surely trim the corners to make their work quality as expected. Power can compensate the dissatisfaction of the pay.
To all the entrepreneurs, if you want your employees to give their best, give them the power as per their designations. Make them feel powerful offering certain roles and responsibilities and making them satisfied with their designation.
Avoid convincing top management by hook or crook; this would let them think you are dominant and ultimately it affects your character and reputation. While choosing the eligible candidates for increment, such remarks might spoil your game. Playing smart is what employees are expected to do.
My 2 cents: “The day you get satisfied with your pay, you would stop progressing ethically!” Work for satisfaction, not for pay! Quality work is never underestimated.
Not satisfied with the pay? Don’t you worry, every night passes along with its darkness. Stay Hungry, Stay Passionate!
