Tablets, smartphones, laptops, power banks, portable hard drives, wearable devices etc. are the gadgets that have made our life easier and dependable at the same time. How many of you can survive, if you are being left in a place where there won’t be any of these gadgets available that can entertain you? Hardly 20% of you would agree with the experiment after visualizing the scenario. Am I right? Yes, I am. It is just because the eruption of the fantabulous devices has a non-detachable influence on our lives.
We are so habitual to these devices that we cannot keep ourselves away from them for long period. I agree there are positive effects too. We would have never experienced such an advanced life without the existence of technology. But, have these inventions affected us so much that we have been getting selfish about ourselves and for the people around us?
Well, this discussion has no end. Let’s see how technology has negatively impact us.
We are Getting Careless
Are we? Yes we are. Though you may not neglect your responsibility of the various roles you play as a parent, employee, leader and many others, do you feel you have involved yourself 100% in any specific role? We are habitual to rely on technology rather than putting more efforts in any situations. We used to have sharp memory before we started using smartphones to set the reminders for birthdays, anniversaries or any special occasion. We don’t remember phone numbers, just because the numbers we are looking for are saved in our mobiles phones. Our IQ level is lowering down as we get any information we need with just a click in search engines. We rely on eCommerce websites for shopping of groceries and other household tools. We have stopped caring about the quality of grocery items even, which needs intense care. Many online stores assure the quality of the products to be the finest, but actually they are not!
Kids are Getting Lazy
School going kids should do their homework by their own, isn’t it? But, I have seen kids using internet to complete their worksheets. Parents should strictly monitor them; else the results would be horrifying. It is true that internet usage would help the current generation to gain additional knowledge. Around 30% of the kids having age between 5 to 10 years own tablets. They need to be active in this age, but technology has made them lazy and obsessed. They don’t like playing outdoor or indoor games; rather they would prefer playing games on their tablets or desktops. Parents need to take this scenario very seriously. Otherwise only the internet will be getting smarter, and not the kids!
People are Becoming Self-Centered
Have you ever seen the scenario where people are busy texting or playing games while in the meeting or any gathering? I am sure; everyone would have witnessed such scene more than once! They are more emotionally attached to their gadgets than the people around. This is a common scenario in a corporate business organization occupied with all sorts or digital appliances.
Families don’t interact on the dinner table as they are busy watching the TV to remain updated with what’s happening around the world. Kids use social networking sites to express their feelings, emotions or problems despite having close friends and parents to support when required. The bond of attachment among humans is lost somewhere in the closet of technology. Well, sometimes I feel like technology is ruling our mind. We should manage the technology by using it in genuine needs.
Mental Illness is Becoming very Common
Technology is a drug which has made modern users addicted to it badly. People surrounded with advanced gadgets at their workplace need to perform more stress relieving workout than those individuals who use internet or computers just for few hours. Employees are suffering from depression, sleeping syndrome etc. There are several new mental diseases found in this technology era. “Anything over used will affect adversely.” This saying is also correct for technology usage. If it is overused, it harms, for instance, gamers get addicted to games and become introvert by isolating themselves from the surroundings. This is the biggest ill effect where the user is more obsessed than attached emotionally.
To date, several studies have been performed just to find how technology has impacted human brains and what measures should be taken to avoid this severe situation. The conclusion was shocking; people need to detach themselves from the technology to a specific level. I guess that is next to impossible in the era where every single task requires technology indulgence. Don’t let digitalization bury you under its benefits. Think a bit and manage your work without having any impact of digital era. There are numerous benefits of this advanced era, but at the same time it has also affected adversely. It’s really hard to draw a fine line between required usage and over usage, but this is necessary as only this will help you build the healthy future.
